Luck of the Irish

My favorite day of the year is quickly approaching--THE ST. PADDY'S DAY PARADE AND AFTER-PARTY ON GREENVILLE AVENUE!  There's just something about daytime debauchery with a bunch of good friends on a Texas spring day that makes me one happy girl.

Although I do look forward to the day itself, I have to admit that I have a wee bit of fun planning my look.  I don't have a lot of green in my closet, so each year requires a special shopping trip for my St. Patrick's Day jaunt.  Here are some pictures of years past:

I love getting all dressed up and glamorized in green.  This year I've chosen two beautiful eyeshadow shades from Urban Decay, Chronic and Mildew, as well as one of their green 24/7 eye pencils.  I had a pedicure yesterday and decided to have my toesies painted in this cute OPI color, Jade is the New Black.  My feet look appropriately festive and fun!

Trying to decide what to wear is a whole other ballgame.  There are so many cute options.  Since the weather should be nice, I'm hoping I can swing a jean skirt.  I don't normally condone shopping at Old Navy, but they have some great choices for St. Paddy's Day and they are cheap, which is perfect for a one-time wear.  Here's the look I'm thinking of for Saturday.

I hope everyone has a wonderful St. Patrick's Day and, for those of you who are lucky enough to attend, a wonderful Saturday on Lower Greenville!  I can't wait and I hope to see you down there.  I'll be the girl in green with the green Jell-O shots...

A Girl Can Dream

I've spent many hours perusing the websites of fashion moguls and high-end clothing stores to find the perfect new handbag.  Purses ARE my obsession (okay, so are shoes and make-up and baubles...).  I've pared down my favorite spring purses under $1,000 (because, really, shouldn't we all have limits?) and here they are:

1.  MICHAEL KORS TONNE HOBO.  This purse barely made the cut with it's $995 price tag.  But it's the perfect combination of functional, sophisticated, and edgy.  You can thank the python trim for that.  Note: Python is illegal in California, thus this purse is not available there.  Luckily, we live in Texas so all those endangered species concerns aren't a problem.

2.  TORY BURCH AMANDA.  I want must have this purse stat.  For $465 I'm pretty sure I would love it forever.  I think I should will buy this lovely bag.  It's an investment in my wardrobe future.

3.    COACH MADISON  I've coveted this purse for so long that I now have a quasi relationship with it.  It's an unhealthy relationship, but it's a relationship nonetheless.  While $498 ($798 for python) is a wee bit pricey for Coach, this purse is timeless and I love it.

What's your favorite purse for spring?

Lisbeth Salander = My Muse

I spent a good chunk of 2010 reading and thinking about Stieg Larsson's Millennium Triology.  His books and the characters within them were absolutely brilliant.  No less than a hundred times did I think to myself, "seriously, how did Larsson think this stuff up?"  It boggles my mind to try to figure out how someone could create such unique characters in such a complex web of storylines.  I realize Larsson isn't the first person to do this (yeah, yeah...Shakespeare...I know), but it still amazes me.

While I couldn't figure out how he created such genius, I did always have a vision of brazen protaganist Lisbeth Salander in my mind.  More specifically, I envisioned her style.

Here's the Swedish adaptation of Lisbeth Salander:

While I think actress Rooney Mara does an excellent job taking on the role of Salander, it's a little more punk-y than what I envision.  I do, however, suspect it's much more on-point than Hollywood's upcoming adaptation of Salander in "The Girl with the Dragon Tatttoo."  I shudder to think how they will gloss over her relentlessly feminist tenacity and "pull no punches" attitude.  As the Daily News wrote, "the U.S. version of Lisbeth Salander appears as haute couture's answer to a punk-rock hacker with virtually none of the grit of Swedish cinema's feminist take on the heroine from Stieg Larsson's best-selling novel."

Barring theatrical preferences, I thought I'd create my own Lisbeth Salander.  This is the Salander who survived police brutality, criminal attacks, hospitalization, abduction, and countless injustices.  She's no angel, though.  Powered by a violent past and a bitter resentment of authority, Salander herself committed numerous criminal and violent acts to became a radical vigilante.

Salander succeeded because in the end she was able to clear her name and save her life.  She evolved and grew as a person--a bit softer and more polished--but she was still a force to be reckoned with.  This is the style of Lisbeth Salander as I imagine it would be at the end of "The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest."

Would Salander wear Christian Louboutin fishnet boots?  Perhaps not.  But she should.  And she DOES have the money for them since she stole over 3 billion kronor, but I digress.  For those of you who read the book, please notice that I paid homage to her love of the Palm T3 Tungsten and her signature satchel.    THIS is the look I envision Lisbeth Salander rocking.  xxoo
